India’s opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal broke the record of former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum in the Test against Australia. In the Perth Test, India was bowled out for 150 runs in their first innings, and then Australia’s batting line-up collapsed, getting all out for just 104 runs. In India’s second innings, they reached 172 without losing a wicket by the end of the day, with Jaiswal scoring 90* and KL Rahul 62*.
India now leads by 218 runs. Jaiswal, in his unbeaten 90-run innings, hit two sixes and is on track to score his first century in Australia. With 34 sixes in 2024, Jaiswal has broken McCullum’s record of most sixes in a calendar year, which was 33.
McCullum is now second on the list of most sixes in a calendar year, while England’s Ben Stokes hit 26 sixes in 2022. Australia’s aggressive batter Adam Gilchrist hit 22 sixes in 2005, and India’s Virender Sehwag also hit 22 sixes in 2008.
