Alia Soomro to Represent Pakistan Against India in Dubai
In a notable effort to boost women in sports, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has decided to provide complete sponsorship for Alia Soomro, Pakistan’s first female boxer, to compete in an international boxing event in Dubai. Soomro will be competing against an Indian rival in this much-awaited match scheduled to be held in August.
Financial Support Worth 4.7 Million Rupees
The Sindh government not only assumed the responsibility of sponsoring the event, but it also provided Alia Soomro with a financial assistance package of PKR 4.7 million, it has been stated. The cheque was officially handed over to her by Provincial Assembly members Yousuf Baloch, Shazia Kareem, and Asad Gabol at a special meeting.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah reiterated his government’s resolve to empower women sports persons in Sindh. “Our government is committed to motivating and supporting female players who are keen to make their mark on international stages,” he declared. He also prayed for Alia’s success and complimented her passion and devotion to boxing, terming her “a talented daughter of Sindh ready to compete globally.”

Prior to the formal announcement of the sponsorship, PPP legislators Shazia Kareem, Yousuf Baloch, and Additional Secretary Asad Ishaq met Alia Soomro at Lyari — a neighborhood famous for churning out sports talent. The gathering was held on the directive of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar. It was during this visit that Alia received the 4.7 million rupee cheque.
Sindh Sports Infrastructure to be Developed by PPP
Shazia Kareem pointed out that with Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as the leader, the Sindh government is intent on developing the sports infrastructure of the province. She made the announcement that special emphasis is being placed on constructing new sports grounds, academies, and training facilities.
Talent Hunt Programs to Identify Emerging Athletes
Additional Secretary Asad Ishaq said Sindh has extremely gifted young people. “With the appropriate opportunities, our youth can excel on the international level,” he added. Not only is the government providing financial assistance but is also instituting talent hunts on the ground to find and nurture young athletes in various sports.
