Pakistan women’s cricket star Sidra Ameen has etched her name in the history books with another remarkable performance. In the second ODI of the home series against South Africa at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Sidra smashed her second consecutive century, becoming the first Pakistani woman and only the second Asian woman to score back-to-back hundreds in women’s ODI cricket.
This century was also her sixth in ODI cricket, which is more than the combined total of all other Pakistani women cricketers, who collectively have only four.
A Lone Warrior Despite Brilliant Form
Despite her incredible consistency, Sidra’s efforts were not enough to secure a win for Pakistan. She scored a fighting 122 runs, keeping Pakistan in the hunt while chasing a challenging target of 313 runs in 46 overs (DLS method). Unfortunately, the team fell short, bowled out for 287 runs in the 45th over, handing South Africa a 25-run victory.
Other key contributions for Pakistan included Natalia Pervaiz (73 runs), Omaima Sohail (43), Aliya Riaz (18), and Rameen Shamim (12).
South Africa’s Dominant Start
Earlier, South Africa set the tone with a record-breaking opening partnership. Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits stitched together a massive 260-run stand, putting Pakistan’s bowlers under immense pressure. Their dominance ensured South Africa had the upper hand throughout the match.
With the ball, Nadine de Klerk stood out for South Africa, picking up three crucial wickets to derail Pakistan’s chase.
Series Result So Far
The rain-affected contest saw South Africa clinch the series after going 2-0 up, leaving Pakistan with only pride to play for in the final ODI. The third and final match of the series is scheduled for September 22 at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Why Sidra Ameen’s Record Matters
Sidra’s achievement highlights both her personal brilliance and the challenges Pakistan’s women’s team continues to face. Scoring consecutive centuries against a top side like South Africa underlines her class and temperament. However, the lack of support from the rest of the team means her efforts have not translated into victories.
For Pakistan cricket, this is both a proud and bittersweet moment-Sidra Ameen’s name will now be remembered for her record-setting performances, but the team still has a long way to go in converting individual milestones into collective success.
