Pakistan Test spinner Sajid Khan is set to make a solid white-ball comeback. During a recent conversation with the media at the Skills Development Camp held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Sajid Khan shared his growing enthusiasm for excelling in the shorter formats of the game.
“I’ve been concentrating on white-ball cricket of late, and I’m looking forward to being in action soon,” stated Sajid. “My aspiration is to play for Pakistan in all forms, including league cricket like the Pakistan Super League (PSL).”
Shaping His Bowling Style
Sajid disclosed that coaches have informed him that his talent would be well-suited for white-ball cricket, and he is shaping his style accordingly.
“I’ve been told that white-ball cricket suits my style, so I’m shaping my bowling around that. I’m putting in extra effort to meet the demands of shorter formats,” he explained.
He also mentioned his work with coach Abdul Rehman, focusing on refining his arm ball and effectively using the crease, essential tools for any successful spinner in limited-overs cricket.
Test Cricket Still a Priority
Though his increasing emphasis was on shorter versions, Sajid himself is also ardent about red-ball cricket.
“Test cricket is a big privilege. I began my career playing white-ball cricket, but playing Tests makes you proud as a bowler,” he said.
Sajid expressed his wish to have more Tests played and uttered his personal opinion against making the format shorter.
I think Test cricket must stay five days. The four-day concept doesn’t appeal to me,” he declared.
Dreaming of the Test Championship Final
Sajid Khan is hopeful about Pakistan’s prospects in the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
“I wish we played more Test matches so our ranking grows. With the kind of team circle and class we possess, I firmly feel we can make it to the WTC final,” he further added.
Learning from the Best at NCA Camp
Sajid emphasized the value of the Skills Development Camp, stating that training with senior players and experienced coaches is proving beneficial.
“We’re learning a lot from senior professionals. I’ve worked with Azhar Mahmood before, and his experience is always helpful,” said Sajid.
County Cricket Ambitions
Apart from national aspirations, Sajid is also eyeing a stint in English county cricket.
I am negotiating with a couple of countries. Everything is going well, and hopefully, we will have some positive news soon,” he added. “It’s my dream to play county cricket, and I think it will improve my overall game.”
Conclusion
Sajid Khan’s ability to play as a spinner and his commitment to shaping his game are reasons enough for him to be a favorite for upcoming white-ball call-ups. Focusing on the PSL, white-ball formats, and the Test Championship final, Sajid is hell-bent on making his mark across formats of the game.
