Saim Ayub Sets Record as Pakistani Opener with Highest ODI Score Against Australia on Australian Soil
In the second ODI of a three-match series, Pakistan leveled the series 1-1 by defeating Australia by nine wickets. Chasing the target in Adelaide, Pakistan’s innings opened with Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub, who helped reach 137 runs before the first wicket fell. Saim scored 82 runs, hitting six sixes and five fours, marking the highest score by a Pakistani opening batter against Australia in Australia. Previously, Mohsin Khan held the record with 81 runs off 109 balls, including five fours, in Melbourne in February 1985.
Interestingly, Pakistan’s renowned opener Saeed Anwar never managed a half-century against Australia on their home ground, with his best score being 49, achieved in Melbourne in January 2000.
Saim Ayub Sets New Record with Most Sixes by a Pakistani Batter in a Single Innings Against Australia Across All Formats. His six sixes are now the highest by a Pakistani player in any match format against Australia. Previously, Naseem Shah had struck four sixes in his 40-run innings off 39 balls in the last match, and former all-rounder Shahid Afridi had hit four sixes in his unbeaten 56 off 26 balls in an ODI in Hobart in 2005. In a Test match, Misbah-ul-Haq also hit five sixes during his 56-ball century against Australia in Abu Dhabi in 2014.
