Rishabh Pant made history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction by becoming the most expensive player ever. According to foreign news agencies, during the live broadcast of the 2025 IPL auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Lucknow Super Giants bought the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman for 3.2 million dollars, which is approximately 270 million Indian rupees. The amount paid by Lucknow Super Giants for Rishabh Pant equals more than 88.8 crore Pakistani rupees.
Pant’s successful bid surpassed the 3.17 million dollars (around 267 million rupees) paid by Punjab Kings just minutes earlier for Shreyas Iyer, making Iyer the most expensive player only for a short time. The IPL auction for the first phase, which featured top-performing players in cricket, took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals had offered 20.75 crore Indian rupees to retain Rishabh Pant under the Right to Match (RTM) card, but Lucknow Super Giants’ offer of 27 crore rupees made Delhi Capitals back out of the auction.
