Pakistan has made a strong start to the new World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, climbing to second place in the standings after a remarkable victory over South Africa in their opening match.
Pakistan Earns 12 Points with a Perfect Start
The Green Caps earned 12 points from their first Test match of the cycle, defeating the defending champions, South Africa. With this win, Pakistan’s points percentage stands at 100%, placing them just behind Australia, who lead the table with three consecutive wins.
Australia Maintains Top Spot
Australia currently holds the top position in the WTC standings with 36 points from three wins. Like Pakistan, their points percentage is also 100%, but they remain ahead due to more matches played and total points earned.
Sri Lanka, India, and England in the Race
Sri Lanka occupies the third position, having played two Tests-winning one and drawing the other-to collect 16 points with a 66.67% win percentage.
India, on the other hand, has been the busiest team in the new cycle, playing seven matches. They’ve won four, lost two, and drawn one. Despite earning 52 points, their win percentage of 61.90% places them in fourth position due to the WTC’s percentage-based ranking system.
Meanwhile, England sits in fifth place with 26 points and a 43.33% win percentage. They’ve won two out of five matches, lost two, and drawn one. Two points were deducted from England’s tally for a slow over-rate, affecting their overall position.
Lower Half of the Table
In the lower half, Bangladesh is placed sixth with a 16.67% win rate, while South Africa, after their loss to Pakistan, has slipped to seventh place.
West Indies find themselves in eighth position, having lost all five Test matches they’ve played so far. New Zealand is yet to begin its campaign in this WTC cycle.
Strong Start Boosts Pakistan’s Confidence
Pakistan’s early success has given them a much-needed confidence boost after a mixed run in recent Test series. Their win against South Africa not only strengthens their position in the standings but also sets the tone for a promising WTC campaign.
With several high-stakes series still ahead, maintaining consistency will be key if Pakistan aims to reach the World Test Championship Final for the first time in history.
