Legendary Nepali climber Kami Rita Sherpa has written his name even further in the history books by ascending Mount Everest for the 31st time, establishing a new world record. This recent summit not only solidifies his supremacy in high-altitude climbing but also surpasses his own previous record of 30 successful ascents, which he recorded in 2024.
Most famously referred to as the ‘Everest Man’
The 55-year-old Sherpa, commonly known as “Everest Man,” is a legendary man in Nepal and around the world. He started his mountaineering career in 1994, and to date, he has continued to climb the highest peak in the world with unmatched consistency and unparalleled endurance.
Leading an Indian Army Team to the Summit
In his record-breaking 31st climb, Kami Rita Sherpa led a 22-strong Indian Army expedition team to the top of Mount Everest, which measures an awe-inspiring 8,849 meters (29,032 feet) above sea level. The team climbed the classical Southeast Ridge route, renowned globally for its technical nature and capricious climatic conditions.
The climb also featured 27 additional Sherpa guides, further bringing out the team spirit involved in the expedition. The event organizer, Seven Summit Treks, reports that Kami Rita not only climbed to the top himself but personally facilitated the safe climbing of each team member, demonstrating his remarkable leadership and devotion.
