Ambitious Goals for Global Cricket Development
In his first statement after assuming office, Jay Shah shared his vision for cricket through a message on the social media platform X. He emphasized working collaboratively with member nations to promote cricket worldwide. Shah highlighted:

Expanding cricket’s reach to new audiences.
Strengthening the grassroots structure.
Ensuring major events captivate global fans.

Jay Shah reiterated his commitment to maintaining Test cricket as the pinnacle of the sport, reflecting its tradition and prestige. Additionally, he underlined the importance of women’s cricket, calling it a key component of the ICC’s development strategy.

Acknowledgment of Support from Member Nations
Expressing gratitude for the support he received, Shah promised to work diligently to meet the expectations of ICC member nations.

Jay Shah’s Appointment as ICC Chairman
Jay Shah, who also serves as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), succeeded Greg Barclay as ICC Chairman. His tenure officially began following Barclay’s departure on November 30.

Shah was elected unopposed, marking the start of his three-year term.
He is eligible for re-election for another term.
Greg Barclay, the outgoing Chairman, had announced his decision to step down in August. Initially, an extension of one week to Barclay’s term was considered due to uncertainties surrounding the Champions Trophy, but Shah’s unopposed election resolved the matter promptly.

A Vision for the Future
Jay Shah’s leadership marks a new era for the ICC, with ambitious plans to take cricket to greater heights. His focus on youth engagement, grassroots development, and gender inclusivity promises a progressive and inclusive path for the sport’s future.
