After India’s refusal to participate in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan and Pakistan’s firm stance on the matter, a new proposed solution has come to light to resolve the situation. According to a private TV channel, discussions could be held to save the event using a “give and take” formula. Both the PCB and BCCI will need to adopt a flexible approach to move forward.
Under this possible plan, India could agree to play one of their three group matches in Pakistan at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. After playing that match, they could return to India or move to the UAE. If India qualifies for the semi-finals, the match will be held in the UAE. If India reaches the final, they will have to come to Lahore to play.
To address PCB’s potential financial losses due to India’s limited participation in Pakistan, a larger share of the ICC Champions Trophy revenue could be allocated to Pakistan. This approach could help the International Cricket Council (ICC), as well as both cricket boards, find a way out of this tricky situation.
India’s partial participation in Pakistan would provide some relief to the PCB, which is unhappy about India’s refusal to tour. At the same time, the BCCI could get its hybrid model partially accepted. On the other hand, the ICC has yet to respond to the PCB’s formal letter. Sources say the BCCI had informally informed the ICC of its refusal, which is why the council is delaying its response.
