Haris Rauf Misses Matching Waqar Younis’s 34-Year-Old Record by Just One Wicket

In the recent three-match ODI series against Australia, Pakistan’s fast bowler Haris Rauf came close to matching a long-standing record by legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis. However, he fell short by just one wicket. In the match held in Perth, Pakistan bowled Australia out for only 140 runs in 31.5 overs. Haris Rauf bowled seven overs, taking two wickets for 24 runs, but remained just one wicket away from equaling Waqar Younis’s record.

Waqar Younis set this record in 1990 against New Zealand, taking the highest number of wickets (11) for Pakistan in a three-match ODI series. Haris Rauf’s 10 wickets in this series against Australia put him in second place. Others who have taken 10 wickets in a three-match ODI series for Pakistan include Saeed Ajmal (against Australia in 2012), Naseem Shah (against the Netherlands in 2022), and Umar Gul (against Sri Lanka in 2009).
