The theft was reported to have taken place on April 22, 2025, at flat no. of Deepti Sharma near Kahrai. Aarushi Goel, who was once a junior teammate of Deepti and is now a junior clerk at Agra Cantt Railway Station, is said to have stolen ₹25 lakh (equivalent to approx. $30,000) worth of valuables, which include:
Cash
Foreign currency (approx. $2,500)
Gold jewelry
The whole scene was recorded on the CCTV, which established the fact that Aarushi sneaked into the flat and stole the valuables when Deepti was abroad.
Deepti’s brother, Samit Sharma, filed a formal police complaint on her behalf. He revealed that Aarushi and her family had been very close to Deepti, having known each other through their cricketing careers. Aarushi, who resides in Rohini, North-West Delhi, had access to Deepti’s home due to their close bond.
Strangely, Aarushi and her parents had previously received a hefty amount of approximately ₹25 lakh in total as a gift from Deepti, reportedly deposited in their bank accounts in the trust of their friendship. But when Deepti requested a refund, Aarushi allegedly began evading her and then refused to give back the money.
