The much-anticipated 11th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) promises heightened excitement as the tournament expands to feature eight competing teams for the first time. In accordance with inside sources, PSL administration and franchise delegations recently gathered for a significant meeting to decide on the schedule and major updates for the following season.
PSL 11 Scheduled for April-May Amid T20 World Cup Clash
Unlike previous versions, which were normally conducted between February and March, PSL 11 in April and May 2026. The schedule adjustment comes in light of the ICC T20 World Cup, which is set to take place in February and March 2026.
This is not the first change in the PSL calendar — the 2025 version was also conducted in April-May, as Pakistan will host the ICC Champions Trophy.
PSL 11 to Have More Venues
Apart from the calendar adjustments, PSL 11 could also have more Pakistani venues to stage the matches. This will give fans from other parts wider access and enhance local cricketing culture in unexplored cities.
League Expansion: PSL Welcomes Two Fresh Franchises
A major highlight for the upcoming season is the addition of two brand-new franchises, boosting the total number of competing teams from six to eight. PSL administration has already contacted potential purchasers, and sources indicate there’s great interest among investors in acquiring the new teams.
This addition will transform the dynamics of the tournament and introduce new rivalries and fresh faces to the game.
Existing PSL teams are:
Karachi Kings
Lahore Qalandars
Islamabad United
Peshawar Zalmi
Quetta Gladiators
Multan Sultans
With two more franchises to come, PSL 11 will be the largest season yet.
Franchise Concerns Addressed
In last week’s meeting, franchise owners complained about pitch quality during PSL 10, saying that they were not good enough. In response, management has assured them of improvements in pitch preparation to facilitate fair competition and quality cricket.
Further, an audit company is to be appointed shortly to assess franchise valuations in a bid to bring transparency and financial credibility to the league.
Window Shift: December-January Slot Cancelled
Given the adjustments due to expansion and the global cricket calendar, the December-January window, which was set aside for PSL, is now cancelled. The window was initially kept open because of scheduling issues, but will now be unused.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan national team will host Sri Lanka for a home series in November 2025, consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is, adding to the congested early-year cricket schedule.
What to Expect in PSL 11?
With additional teams, increased venues, a changed schedule, and better emphasis on quality, PSL 11 will be a benchmark season. The addition of two new franchises will provide fresh vibrancy to the tournament, introduce new fan bases, and create greater scope for new players.
Watch out for the official team announcements and the complete match schedule to be announced shortly!
