“Just like I am most effective with the new ball, I should be used accordingly. Similarly, Babar Azam’s strength is batting at No. 3, where he can anchor the innings effectively.”

Amir highlighted the contrast between an opener’s role in T20s and a No. 3 batter. While an opener is expected to play aggressively during the powerplay, a No. 3 batter has more time to build an innings.

Amir pointed out that Babar has historically performed well at No. 3, where he balances caution with run-scoring to provide stability to the team. However, ahead of the Champions Trophy, the team management promoted him to the opening role after Saim Ayub’s exclusion, forcing him into an aggressive style that didn’t suit his natural game.
