Despite receiving a legal notice from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has continued his public criticism of the board. Taking to social media, Tareen expressed frustration over what he described as the PCB’s failure to clear pending payments owed to Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises.
In a pointed message, he wrote, “Someone please remind those busy producing ‘important and creative’ podcast content that the franchises still haven’t received full payments for PSL 9 and PSL 10.” His sarcastic tone highlighted his growing discontent with the PCB’s handling of financial obligations.
“Pay Your Dues Before Taking Interviews”
Ali Tareen didn’t stop there. In another sharp remark, he added, “The content is great, but maybe pay your dues first before interviewing yourselves.” The comment appeared to mock PCB officials for focusing on media appearances rather than resolving financial issues with PSL franchises.
Multan Sultans Top PSL Viewership Charts
To strengthen his argument, Tareen also shared a PSL 9 viewership chart on his social media accounts. According to the data, Multan Sultans were the most-watched team during the season, averaging 9.2 million views per match — significantly higher than other franchises.
He emphasized that the PSL’s success was largely due to the hard work of franchises and the unwavering support of fans, suggesting that the PCB should recognize and appreciate these efforts. “The franchises and the fans made this league what it is,” he stated, implying that the board’s role was secondary compared to the teams’ contributions.
PCB to Issue a Clarification Soon
In response, PCB sources have described Tareen’s statements as “unnecessary and misleading.” The board maintains that it is already addressing all financial and administrative matters related to PSL franchises and plans to issue an official clarification soon.
While the dispute continues to unfold, this ongoing conflict between one of the league’s prominent owners and the PCB has once again brought attention to the transparency and financial management of the PSL.
