Former Bangladesh left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak has stepped down from his role as a national selector to contest in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections. The 43-year-old submitted his nomination papers on October 6, aiming to run as a director candidate from the Khulna Division.
From Selector to Candidate
Razzak had been serving as a selector for the Bangladesh men’s national team since 2021, playing an important role in shaping squad selections during that time. His resignation marks the beginning of a new chapter in his cricketing journey, as he looks to move from team selection to cricket administration.
He is now among 61 candidates vying for 23 director posts in the BCB. The general body of councilors, made up of voting members, will elect 23 directors out of 25 positions. From those elected directors, the BCB president will then be chosen for a four-year term.
Race for the Presidency
The election has already attracted big names. Current BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon and former national captain Tamim Iqbal have both confirmed their candidacies for the top role, setting the stage for a high-profile contest.
Razzak’s Reflections on His Decision
Reflecting on his resignation, Abdur Razzak said:
“I had the honor of representing the national team for 14 years and serving as a selector for more than four years. I believe the time has come to step away from this role and explore opportunities to contribute on a broader level to the game that has given me so much.”
Looking Ahead
Razzak’s move signals his ambition to play a larger role in shaping the future of cricket in Bangladesh. With his playing experience and recent stint in selection, he brings both on-field and administrative insight that could prove valuable if elected.
