The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially suspended USA Cricket’s membership, citing repeated violations of the ICC constitution. The decision was made during the ICC Board meeting, where concerns over governance and compliance were highlighted.
According to the ICC, USA Cricket failed to establish a proper governance system and repeatedly breached its obligations as a member board. The suspension was described as “regrettable but necessary.”
USA Still Eligible for T20 World Cup 2026
Despite the suspension, the ICC confirmed that the USA national team will remain eligible to compete in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, which will be hosted in India, Sri Lanka, and the United States.
This ensures that American cricketers will not be punished for administrative failures and can still represent their country in global competitions.
ICC to Take Temporary Control
As part of the suspension, the ICC will temporarily oversee the management and operations of the USA national team. A Normalization Committee has also been appointed to monitor reforms within USA Cricket and ensure steps are taken toward restoring compliance.
The ICC emphasized that the suspension only impacts the administrative body, not the players or teams, who will continue to play under ICC’s direct oversight until further notice.
Conditions for Reinstatement
The ICC stated that USA Cricket must take immediate corrective actions to regain its membership. This includes:
- Establishing a fully functional governance system.
- Meeting the constitutional requirements of ICC membership.
- Ensuring transparent and effective management structures.
Only after these reforms will the suspension be lifted.
ICC’s Commitment to Growing Cricket in the USA
While the suspension is a setback, the ICC reaffirmed its long-term commitment to promoting cricket in the United States. The country is considered a key growth market, especially with the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 expected to significantly boost the sport’s popularity in North America.
