Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has called on the government and the people to focus on serving those in need instead of chasing business interests. Speaking at an event in Islamabad, Afridi stressed that true leadership lies in serving those in need, especially in times of crisis.
Heartbreaking Scenes from Flood-Hit Areas
Recalling his personal visits to flood-affected regions, Afridi described the devastating conditions faced by families, children, and even livestock. “I saw children and animals forced to drink from the same contaminated water source,” he said. He also highlighted how residents had to walk up to 10 kilometers just to fetch water in pots, a reality that reflects the severity of the humanitarian crisis.
A Call for Compassion and Unity
Afridi appealed to the nation to not only donate but also physically reach out to flood victims. “Meet them, embrace them, and support them in this difficult time,” he urged. He emphasized that survivors need more than material aid—they need compassion, empathy, and reassurance that they are not forgotten.
From Playing for Himself to Working for Others
Reflecting on his journey, Afridi admitted that in the early days of his cricket career, he played mostly for personal success. “But life always reaches a stage when you must rise for others,” he said. According to him, this is the mission he has now embraced, dedicating his time and efforts to humanitarian work.
A Collective Responsibility
Concluding his address, Afridi called on all Pakistanis to join hands in supporting flood victims. “I speak less, but I work more,” he remarked, urging everyone to play their part in easing the suffering of those affected by the floods.
