Former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is among thousands of Karachi residents struggling with prolonged power outages following continuous rainfall in the city.
Rain Triggers Widespread Power Disruptions
Since Tuesday morning, Karachi has been hit by spells of rain, causing major disruptions to the city’s electricity network. According to K-Electric, nearly 550 feeders went offline, leaving large parts of the metropolis in darkness.
Despite the disruption, the utility company claimed that out of 2,100 feeders, power supply from more than 1,550 feeders remains active.
Sarfaraz Ahmed Voices Frustration
Like many citizens, 38-year-old Sarfaraz Ahmed also faced difficulties due to the power cuts. The former captain voiced his frustration on Instagram Stories, urging authorities to restore power in his locality.
“It’s been 10 hours without power in the Buffer Zone. Even UPS has stopped working. Please restore electricity,” he wrote in his post.
His message quickly gained attention from fans and residents facing similar hardships.
Fuel Shortage Adds to K-Electric’s Troubles
The crisis deepened as reports surfaced that K-Electric vehicles faced movement restrictions due to a fuel supply shortage, further slowing down maintenance and repair work.
This has sparked concerns among residents that power restoration may take longer than expected if the situation continues.
Urban Flooding Worsens the Situation
Heavy downpours not only caused blackouts but also led to urban flooding across Karachi. Streets turned into streams, and in several neighborhoods, water entered homes, adding to the misery of residents.
Tragically, the rain also proved deadly. According to local reports, at least nine people lost their lives due to incidents such as electrocution and collapsing walls during the downpour.
A City in Crisis
Each monsoon exposes Karachi’s weak infrastructure, and this latest spell has once again highlighted the city’s fragile power system. With celebrities like Sarfaraz Ahmed joining the chorus of frustrated residents, pressure is mounting on K-Electric and civic authorities to act swiftly.
Until then, citizens of Pakistan’s largest city continue to cope with blackouts, waterlogging, and unsafe living conditions brought on by the relentless rains.
